Back by popular demand, Scorpius Dance Theatre presents CATWALK, February 25-27 at Phoenix Theatre’s Hardes Theatre. Fashion meets dance on the runway in this high-energy, original contemporary dance production that fuses funky fashions by local designers, the sexy athleticism of Scorpius’ dancers, and the distinct choreography of Lisa Starry. This year’s CATWALK also features guest choreography and performances by Angel Castro of HALO Movement Collective.
“I received such a great response from the original CATWALK, so I knew I wanted to bring it back to the stage some day. I decided to keep the most popular dance pieces in the show, while adding some new works for an element of surprise,” said Lisa Starry, founder and director of Scorpius Dance Theatre.
The stage for CATWALK is set-up in a long narrow configuration, as if the dancers are moving down a runway. An up-close and intimate performance space, audience seating is along the “runway,” much like seating at a fashion show. Scorpius’ dancers strut their stuff in 18 different choreographic works, including several new pieces, as well as humorous fashion runway spoof interludes. Many of the costumes from the original CATWALK have returned, including designs by Trish Martin of Punkouture; Alicia “AK” Klovenas of Culture Revolution; and George Johnson of George J Designs. George Johnson has also created costumes for the new pieces.
CATWALK is February 25 at 7 p.m. and February 26-27 at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Hardes Theatre at Phoenix Theatre is located at 100 E. McDowell Rd, Phoenix AZ, 85004.
