From August 31 to September 14, Through Each Others is presenting “Cactus and Coral,” an 80-print photographic exhibit that showcases a cultural exchange between photographers from Arizona and Australia. The complimentary exhibit will be on display at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, and a kick-off reception will be held on September 3 at 5:30 p.m. Through Each Others Eyes is a Phoenix-based nonprofit that encourages people around the world to understand and appreciate diverse cultures through photography.

Through Each Others Eyes develops exchanges with photographers in other countries for the purpose of documenting photographically an unfamiliar culture from the viewpoint of an outsider. The photographers spend time in the host city, documenting through photographs, people and their daily lives: their work, relationships with each other, festivals and celebrations, and simple scenes of their daily activities. Once home, the photographers stage a free, professional photo exhibit so their local community can learn about and appreciate another culture. The exhibit is also displayed in the exchange country.

“Cactus and Coral” is Through Each Others Eyes first cultural exchange with Australia. The exhibit will showcase photographs from Australian photographers Alex Pirez and Tim Warnock during their time in the Valley, including such events and uniquely Arizona experiences as spring training, Native Trails dancing, hot air ballooning, the Grand Canyon National Park, and Arizona Bike Week. “Cactus and Coral” will also display images by Arizona photographers, Bob Rink and Jim Marshall from their time experiencing Australian points of interest, including the Great Barrier Reef, the rainforest, and Cairns Festival.

“Cactus and Coral” is supported by Scottsdale Sister Cities and is free to the public. The exhibit will be held at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts from August 31 to September 14. A complimentary launch reception will be held September 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is located at 7380 E. 2nd St., Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
